First, I apologize in advance: I may not be know the correct terminology so I will explain the problem in detail. I have two PCs ruing Linux Mint and coected to the inteet on a wired network. This network is usually restricted by a "captive portal". Box A coects to the inteet freely without the captive portal, but Box B asks to login via a browser (captive portal). As one of the employees, I shouldn't be restricted by the captive portal so I complained to the IT guy. There is some Cisco software that employees need to install so that they won't be restricted but it only runs for Windows and Mac, so I am told "You have to install Windows or use a Mac" and that is frustrating cos I know it can...

I got a PC with a ASUS B85M-G motherboard and the following problem. None of my USB ports (neither at the back, nor at the front, neither USB 3.0, nor USB 2.0) work. Actually, they don't work for devices plugged in to them after Windows has booted. A device that is already plugged in during boot (mouse, usb-stick, ...) is perfectly detected and usable. When I plug in a device at runtime and then reboot Windows, the device is available. Sometimes (but not always), a Windows alert message saying "USB device not detected" or the like is shown. My phone ruing Android 6.0 supports WiFi direct, and it is straight forward how to use it from the UI. But, I can't say the same about Windows 10. I can't find an option to coect via WiFi direct in there. Does anyone know how to use WiFi direct in Windows 10? Ok here is my situation. My sisters family moved in with us and there kind of stubbo with the inteet. They want to use their router for their own network. The way I have it setup is we have our service provider modem going to our router witch creates our network and then their router is plugged into our router for their own network in their room. All they use it for is their PlayStation and phones. ( total waste if you ask me ) any time I do something with our router it effects theirs. Here is my question. Is it possible to go from the ISP modem to both routers so nether of them are coected to each other. I tried doing a switch from the modem and then to both routers but only one router gets...

There's a lot of press about how some USB C cables are dangerous - as I understand it, they have the wrong resistor, and that causes the device to draw too much power. On the other hand, I'd like to get cheap USB A to C cables for stashing around the house. I also currently have a probably non standard cable that came with the phone - designed to handle up to 5v 4A - I have a one plus three and its part of the dash charge quick charge system. I'm assuming that's safe for use with a PC though. While "get cables that have been tested by benson leung" is a good idea, having a standard way to test my own cables that does not involve having a nexus 5x or 6p would be nice. The XFINITY WiFi by Comcast hotspot service has an app with a Help file that shows a screenshot saying: You can also select any network listed above the Available Networks option as shown in this example: Usually all I see is the first item, ‘xfinitywifi’. Oddly, as I hold down the wifi menu the other two items, ‘CafeExpress’ and ’XFINITY’, occasionally pop-up briefly. As shown in that screenshot, only the third has a closed padlock icon. I'll try to keep it simplified. Every router puts off a beacon. This beacon contains unique identifiable information, namely the MAC address of the broadcasting device. Now assume there are a billion people with phones and their phone's software asks to use wifi to improve GPS. What do you think is happening? I have a virtual machine with Linux setup and host machine on Windows. I would like to create a network folder that the Windows and Linux machine could share. Note that I would like a shared network folder, and not a shared folder (since I had problems with shared folders for locked files, etc). The Linux machine is setup with Virtualbox, and the network adapter is a Bridged Adapter (would prefer to keep it this way if its possible). I have a windows box ruing apache. Its port 80 is accessible from any computer in the LAN. But not accessible to computers coected through VPN. The firewall on the box is set to allow TCP/80 for 'public'. I am not sure where the coection is getting blocked. Can someone, kindly, help how to troubleshoot? I downloaded a video file with flash video download add-on for firefox from a website. This downloaded ok but when I try any players (VLC, quicktime and WMP) it does not play at all. I also tried video downloader on Chrome. What could be the problem? Any ideas? I don't know why but I can run Garry's mod server BUT CANT sven coop, the ship, CSS, tf2, half life deathmatch source or any other. I have an Excel workbook (just a spreadsheet, really) that I live and die by every day. It is stored on Dropbox, and I will open and edit it as needed several times each day from my iPhone and/or my Mac. The problem is that when going to it, as saved by the phone, when I'm using the Mac, the file opens on screen formatted for the phone, missing columns to the left and to the right. I've tried everything I can think of...is there a way for me to open it on my Mac and have it formatted for my laptop screen? We have a small home network with 2 PCs and an assortment of mobile devices. Recently, the newer of the PCs froze and needed a restart. However, since the reboot, it won't coect to the inteet. Mousing over the networking icon on the start bar yields the text "Unidentified Network. No inteet access". We have tried numerous things. We have restarted the PC and the router numerous times. I have disabled and re-enabled the static IP multiple times and it doesn't work in either case. Looking at the network info, it says "No Inteet Coectivity" next to both IPv4 and IPv6. I have a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn Network Adapter on an HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC. For a few days, the adapter has been discoecting from the network on and off. When I check Device Manager, the main issue I have is Code 45: "Currently, the hardware device is not coected to the computer. To fix this problem, recoect the hardware device to the computer." I tried to access ubuntu with SSH from outside network, but seem to be unsuccessful. I have installed - noip on my ubuntu server - ddclient - forward port 22 on my router as shown in picture. result from terminal port forward on router I'm able to access ubuntu with user@local.ip.address. However, once I tried to access with global.ip.address from my isp or hostname registered with noip (user@global.ip.address, user@noip.hostname), the response is always time out.
