Create a shared network folder between VM and host machine

I have a virtual machine with Linux setup and host machine on Windows. I would like to create a network folder that the Windows and Linux machine could share. Note that I would like a shared network folder, and not a shared folder (since I had problems with shared folders for locked files, etc).

The Linux machine is setup with Virtualbox, and the network adapter is a Bridged Adapter (would prefer to keep it this way if its possible).
