mp4 file not working from embedded flash website

I downloaded a video file with flash video download add-on for firefox from a website. This downloaded ok but when I try any players (VLC, quicktime and WMP) it does not play at all. I also tried video downloader on Chrome. What could be the problem? Any ideas?
