I have Fedora 24 installed using Hyper-V on top of Windows 10 (anniversary update) Trying to get the Hyper-V vGPU working, but Fedora does not recognizing it, and it doesn't even recognizing the video device if i don't have the vGPU enabled. Anyway to get some video acceleration or even just fullscreen working on this setup or should i look at different Hyper-visors? Side Question: Would i be better off testing this with Server 2016 - Which has pass through? I started this expedition after i not...

I have been searching around and comparing specifications to build a budget gaming PC. On the Intel site, i have been comparing CPUs and I noticed that the I3 CPUs, while only having 2 physical cores as usual, have 4 threads, meaning that they are hyper threaded. But with the I5 CPUs on the other hand, they have 4 physical cores and 4 threads, meaning that they are not hyper threaded, which is kinda weird for intel to hyper thread the I3s and I7s but not the I5s. As common knowledge, virtual cor...

The recent Windows 10 Anniversary update contains an update for Hyper-V related to basic connections: If you connect to a virtual machine using enhanced mode – it gets all the DPI information from the host, and does the right thing. However, if you are using basic mode – the guest OS is unaware of the host DPI. To address this we will now automatically scale the virtual machine screen display to match the host DPI – but only if you are using basic mode. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/virtual...

My CPU has 18 cores, and, due to hyperthreading, 36 logical processors. However, VMware player's highest option in settings is a 16 processor virtual machine. Is there a reason for this? I have tried Googling, but have been able to find no answer. This is frustrating, as I would like to bring all my computational resources to bear. I am on a Windows 10 host, using VMware Workstation 12 player to virtualize Ubuntu 16.04, and I have a Xeon E5-2697 v4. Let's block ads! (Why?)...

I've a little problem with my new virtualization setup. On my host machine (Windows 10 Pro) I just installed the current Version of Microsofts Hyper-V (via "Add Windows features"). My host Computer have two network cards. (2 x Intel(R) l210) My configuration is the following: Networkcard #1: static IP for my local network connection to access the www (activated all elements under properties for this connection except ms-multiplex and "hyper-v extensible virtual switch") Networkcard #2: dynamic I...

I have an SQL server configured with a Server in Hyper-V and I am trying to access the database through the Host computer. When I ping the SQL server (static IP) they communicate and vice versa. Then through the SQL configuration manager, I can access the database from SQL server, but not from the host computer (gives me an error 40 and error 5). I've configured the TCP/IP of the SQL configuration manager to match the SQL server's IP address. I've set the port number to 1433. Is there anything e...

How can I make every instance of a word, a hyperlink to a file on my computer. I have managed to do it with one instance of the word, but repeating this be time consuming so I am hoping that the program itself can do it. I also would like to use the %windir% and %userprofile% system variables in the file. Here is what I tried: %windir%system32shell32.dll However this gets replaced (and fails) by Openoffice to look like this: "%25windir%25system32shell32.dll" If I add double quotes, openoffice ad...

I would like to to use Hyper-V and RemoteFX on my laptop(4th gen i7). Unfortunatelly RemoteFX is only availible for the integrated GPU, but not for the additional nvidia GeForce 740m card. I did not find any detailed information, why the card is reported not to meet RemoteFX requirements, while the Intel HD 4600 does. I assume it is because, it is not branded as a Quadro card. Can I see, why Windows claims that a GPU is not RemoteFX compatible? I tried using some drivers from the Quadro line ist...

I have several hyperlinks in an Excel 2010 sheet that are .png image files. I have .png files set to open in MS Paint. In Windows 7, clicking a link would directly open the file in MS Paint. But in Windows 8, using Inteet Explorer 11, clicking the same .png link now opens inteet explorer first, and displays an annoying message, "Image will not automatically be saved", and then the image opens in MS Paint. Is there a way to bypass Inteet Explorer, so that the hyperlink opens the file in the progr...
