I have read this post however I still have a question. I understand that saying 32 bit processor implies registers of size 32 bit long each of which can hold up to 2^32 data. My question goes little bit further. So during the execution cycle, how does 32bit register span into the main memory? It depends. It completely depends on what you're programming. If you are programming apps or need to use programming tools that require higher resource usage then I'd go with #1 and even go up to 16 GB ram. BUT, in general, both are perfectly fine. You can even get a laptop with lower spec and it should be fine. Again, it depends. Oh, and GPU only matter if you are programming graphics related software. My CPU has 18 cores, and, due to hyperthreading, 36 logical processors. However, VMware player's highest option in settings is a 16 processor virtual machine. Is there a reason for this? Due to issues related to font scaling, I've been running both for at least a month at 2560x1440 without significant problems. I got a dozen java clients running, and they've got a memory leak. When the memory leak happens, more ram won't be used, because theres a hard limit on the ram, however, the client will use infinite cpu. Freezing up the system. The client itself is used by a small community and there is no interest to fix the memory leaks. I've installed Windows 7 on my laptop, after having Windows 10 and not liking it because of several driver issues and constant bluescreens. My computer is performing much better, but I am still having issues that I cannot seem to find the solution to. It's about DPC latency. When I run latencymon, just browsing the web, watching some youtube vids, it spikes up telling me that there is a driver causing DPC latency. And sometimes the audio pops and crackles.
