I got a wifi extender, prolink at the start of this month. The speeds were much better on the extender, while I only got 2 bars from my router which is downstairs and constant coection drops and slow speeds. But now however my extenders speed is just slow, I get full bars however the speed is about 3-4 mpbs while when I am coected to the my router, the speeds go to above 7+ mpbs. I have no idea what is going on. I would also like to point on when I set up the extender, it automically cotected to my router but I can not access the extenders IP to conifg it, which is "192.168.123.253". I cant access that site from my extender or my router. Anyone know what is going on and how to fix it or a wa...

My CPU has 18 cores, and, due to hyperthreading, 36 logical processors. However, VMware player's highest option in settings is a 16 processor virtual machine. Is there a reason for this? I have tried Googling, but have been able to find no answer. This is frustrating, as I would like to bring all my computational resources to bear. I am on a Windows 10 host, using VMware Workstation 12 player to virtualize Ubuntu 16.04, and I have a Xeon E5-2697 v4. Let's block ads! (Why?)...

I have a NFS server at home which exports a directory using the following export options: /dir/at/server client(rw,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash,async) On the client I use the following mount options in /etc/fstab: server:/dir/at/server /dir/at/client nfs proto=tcp,_netdev,vers=3,rw,async When I copy a single (large) file from server->client or vice versa then iftop gives a throughput rate of approximately 15Mbit/s which is absolutely reasonable regarding my network hardware infrastructure (wifi interface of the server is attached to the usb hub which is sharing its bandwith with the hdd). However, in the shared directory I have a couple of snapshot directories having thousands of...

Im using the Huawei E5186s, and whenever logging into the admin panel, and going to the wifi section - theres multiple SSID broadcasting, in which's description is: Wi-Fi Multi-SSID provides a maximum of four different access chaels for a Wi-Fi network. The gateway can provide Wi-Fi access points at different rates. From this i understand that i am able to limit the bandwidth each SSID provides, so i could let a specific part of the home use 100% bandwidth, and the other SSID for guests allow to use only 20% of bandwidth - is it possible with this router, or is not good enough? I frequently use Search function inside Zend Studio software (which is built on top of Eclipse). I use it a lot. Probably 10-100 times a day. I have experienced a mysterious variety in search time, when I use Search to find a string in one of the files inside the Project. Often it takes just a second to complete the search request. But sometimes it takes 10-20 seconds, and that is the issue I seek to resolve/diagnose. What I do: press Ctrl-H (opens up the search menu) type my search string press Search usually it takes about 1 second or less, but sometimes it takes 10-20 seconds [and that is the issue] What I See It happens sporadically, not all the time, but it happens frequently nonethele...

I am just starting to try to set up FTP server/clients using Filezilla. Everything seems to be working, but the Filezilla client maxes out around 200KiB/s per upload. My upload bandwidth can support 5+ simultaneous transfers at this speed. however, I would like to transfer one large 70Gb file (ideally without breaking it into smaller pieces). Is there some setting that makes a max speed per individual upload? I have tried multiple clients as well (FireFTP, CuteFTP etc.) and the same thing happens. Or is there some way to check if the ISP is causing this? I also find strange that if I upload the file to a service like Dropbox or Google Drive, I can get speeds of about 2000KiB/s. It is only wi...

I got a dozen java clients ruing, and they've got a memory leak. When the memory leak happens, more ram won't be used, because theres a hard limit on the ram, however, the client will use infinite cpu. Freezing up the system. The client itself is used by a small community and there is no interest to fix the memory leaks. I need some kind of a software that will limit cpu usage between the java programs, making it so no single process can use up more than 6.7% cpu. Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I'm trying to determine what is the maximum supported SATA version on my laptop. My laptop has: one mSATA SSD, one HD, one Optical Drive. Windows and tools ruing on windows servers (eg. OneDrive) have a limit on path lengths. I am looking for a command line tool in OSX/Linux/Unix to, within a directory, shorten all paths above a path length threshold, for example, by keeping the first 5 characters and the last 5 characters of each folder/file name in overly long paths, starting with the names of folders and files most distant from the root (ie. most nested). ie folder_very_very_long_name/folder_very_very_long_name/folder_very_very_long_name/file_very_very_long_name could become folder_very_very_long_name/folder_very_very_long_name/folde_name/file__name I can already identify the troublesome paths using: find . -name * -...

I would like the fans to automatically adjust speed based on appropriate inteal temperatures. I have a dual-boot with Windows 10 and it works as expected under Windows. However, when I log in to Ubuntu, the fans are quiet for about 30 seconds and then spin up to what I'm guessing is about 70-80%. I took the following steps: sensors-detect service kmod start sensors pwmconfig The output of each of these commands can be found in this pastebin. I don't know much about hardware/drivers/modules, so I'm a little out of my element. pwmconfig obviously isn't finding the fan(s), but I don't know why or what driver/module to look for to get it to work. Any help is greatly appreciated. Let's block ad...

In order to avoid hitting the system limit, xargs has its own limit to the maximum length of the resulting command. If the supplied arguments would cause the invoked command to exceed this built in limit, ...

I'm trying to run a large computation on my Dell Inspiron 620 desktop, making the CPU generate a lot of heat. Unfortunately, the resulting fan noise can be quite frightening, especially at night! It tus out that this computer has exactly two speeds for the CPU fan - low (~500 RPM), and very loud (~3000 RPM). I've been playing with fancontrol trying to make the fan noise more bearable. I wrote this bash one-liner to work around this limitation: while true; do echo 191 > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm1; sleep 0.35; echo 192 > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm1; sleep 0.36; done Ruing this script seems to make the fan spin at an appropriate speed. Is it safe to run this script for extended perio...

I have designed and developed a protocol for a progressive file transfer. Now I want to calculate some metrics for the same. The most important one is speed. Currently, I ran both the client and the server on a single machine, hence the speed was say,x. But if the protocol is to be run in a distributed environment with routers, there will be some delays introduced, like processing delay, queue delay, propagation delay, etc. Could some one tell me what are the points I should consider to calculate a rough speed of the protocol. Should it be a function of these delays? This entry passed through the Full-Text RSS service - if this is your content and you're reading it on someone else's site, pl...
