I'm an L2 helpdesk guy and I have a user whose Lenovo L440 will not coect to wifi. The wifi icon in the notification area shows a red X and the "tu wireless on" button is greyed out in the Mobility Center. When she presses F8, it shows that wifi is on. The adapter is enabled and "allow to tu off to save power" is unchecked. We've reinstalled Pro/Set Wireless, and tried to install the adapter driver from the Device Manager. When I uninstalled the device there, checking the "remove driver" checkbox, it did not find the driver in Windows Update and I had to install Pro/Set Wireless from the Intel website. I've reinstalled the Hotkey Features Integration package and the Power Management driver. ...

I have a home network built around an ancient computer that I've tued into a router, ruing Debian Wheezy. The wireless part is based on a TP-LINK TL-WN851ND PCI card on the hardware side, and uses hostapd on the software side. Now, I have recently obtained a new phone, on which I am ruing CyanogenMod 12.1 (equivalent to Android 5.1). This device can coect to my wireless network, but most network operations (e.g. downloading things) result in timeouts, requiring retries. Fetching emails over IMAP is particularly terrible, almost invariably resulting in timeout exceptions. If a coection succeeds, it's fast, but getting the coection to succeed is problematic. It is only on this network that I'm...

I got a wifi extender, prolink at the start of this month. The speeds were much better on the extender, while I only got 2 bars from my router which is downstairs and constant coection drops and slow speeds. But now however my extenders speed is just slow, I get full bars however the speed is about 3-4 mpbs while when I am coected to the my router, the speeds go to above 7+ mpbs. I have no idea what is going on. I would also like to point on when I set up the extender, it automically cotected to my router but I can not access the extenders IP to conifg it, which is "192.168.123.253". I cant access that site from my extender or my router. Anyone know what is going on and how to fix it or a wa...

My PC is coected to a WIFI access point to access inteet. That is working fine. Now, I have coected an embedded system (say a router) to my PC using an etheet cable. Now I am able to ping exteal addresses like google.com etc. as well as my embedded system's ip (192.168.1.1) from a command prompt. So, basically my PC is using both the interfaces successfully. I am able to browse any exteal website as well as the embedded system's admin login page from IE. But Chrome is only able to browse exteal websites, it is not able to access the embedded system's login page. I think - Chrome is trying to use the WIFI network interface for accessing the page and hence fails. How can I force chrome to use ...

I am trying to understand how WiFi Range extenders work at setup level. I am going thru the specifications and user manuals available on manufacturer websites and it’s adding to my confusion. I have DHCP IP reservation (against MAC ID) setup in my DIR 615 main router and you can not repeat IP address. Now I understand that extender translates client’s MAC ID to a Virtual MAC that host router shall see. I want to seamlessly carry say my laptop anywhere in the house with IP reservation & MAC filtering on. I can add both MAC ids to the list but I can not have same IP for two MAC ids. In that case do I need to maintain two IPs under DHCP reservation? When a client is equidistant from both Ro...

I have a Windows 10 Tablet that has a WWAN 4G Modem and a WiFi adapter. The WiFi adapter is used to talk to another local computer (not coected to the inteet), and the 4G Modem is used to talk to the inteet. Independently, they work great. However, when they are both tued on at the same time and coected to their respective network/device, only one of them has a priority over the other at any given time that I caot seem to find a way to control. So either the WWAN works and I can access the inteet but am not able to talk to the other computer over WiFi (ping/ftp), or when the WiFi has the priority I can ping/ftp into the local computer, but am not able to access the inteet with the WWAN. I tr...

Ruing Windows 10 pro in Bootcamp it does not detect a 5GHz WiFi network, only 2.4GHz networks are found. When I boot to OSX it detects both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Others in my office can coect to 5GHz wifi via Windows 10, although they have an Intel wireless adapter, mine is Broadcom. We have one 2.4GHz and one 5GHz wireless network in our office, but my Windows 10 only shows the 2.4GHz network in the list of available coections. There is a wall between my room and the wireless routers but even if I take my laptop to the router room it still does not pick up the 5GHz network. The network adapter obviously supports 5GHz as it works in OSX. Here are my system specs: Macbook Pro 2012 Intel i...

Preamble: I have a Dell Windows laptop with a Killer Wireless card. I made a partition and installed Ubuntu because I am used to Unix-style development environments (Windows is for light browsing, gaming, entertainment, etc). It seems that Ubuntu does not recognize my wireless card. It does not show up with $ ifconfig. I found this help page: http://www.killeetworking.com/support/knowledge-base/17-linux/20-killer-wireless-ac-in-linux-ubuntu-debian But the instructions are not clear. I have installed drivers before, but usually they are simple $ make; $ make install; procedures. After putting the files where they belong, as the link suggested, I tried that procedure. $ ifconfig; still shows t...

My router and wifi work fine for all devices. However I prefer to use an etheet when I want to play online games with my laptop. When I start the computer with an etheet b/t my laptop and the router, the inteet and wifi drops entirely for all devices and even the laptop w/ the etheet doesn't have inteet. If I restart the router and modem while the laptop is etheet'ed to the router, it says there's an inteet coection, but nothing loads. So then I restart the laptop and the inteet coection drops again. I'm sure others have faced this frustrating issue in the past. Say you have a dozen tabs open in a browser and you are at a hotel or cafe attempting to use their wifi. You select the wifi ID and all of a sudden, the wifi login screen populates all of your tabs, with no option to go back to the previous website. The content in those tabs has been lost, forever. How does one prevent this from happening? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I am fairly green to the networking game but I will try to explain the best I can. I am using a Raspberry Pi 3. I have dnsmasq and hostapd to create a wireless access point. I was successful in doing so as well as port forwarding the inteet from ETH0. However, directions have changed. What I want to accomplish is to continue utilizing my RPI as a wireless access point yet without inteet access. What I would like to achieve is to have a wireless access point that hands out IPs (dhcp server) as well as an Etheet (access point?) static network that hands out IPs (dhcp server) if requested. I would like to have a setup like... rpi_eth0->static IP = 192.168.1.3 rpi_wlan0-> static IP = 196.1...

I recently purchased Philips Hue lights and noticed that my wireless network has slowed down considerably. If I cut power to all lights and the Hue bridge, everything seems to be fine again. Hue lights work on the 2.4 GHz band and so does my WiFi, but I don't think that they communicate permanently. What could be the source of the problem? RF interference of some kind? How can I mitigate this effect? PS: I'm not sure in which SO site I should post this... Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Can't make the "offline" status go back to "online". I have a Brother 3150CDW and works perfect. When I reboot my laptop with Windows 10, I get the printer offline. It's not a printer's discoection from the WIFI, but a Windows problem: If I go into the control panel, and I seek the printer's URL, and I enter the printer via the web, I can access it, I can see it's IP address to be the one that is assigned to it by the DHCP, and I can launch a test-page printing from the web. This proves the "network" works, otherwise the web server of the printer would not be accessible. From inside we can browse, so the printer "is there": Instead, when printing from the windows, the spooler kee...

The thing is I don't have such switch on my laptop. I was ruing Debian testing when the problem first occured, and tried to reinstall the whole system on a brand new drive, but the problem persists. Wifi is enabled in BIOS. I have followed several tutorials, mostly from askubuntu, but none of them worked for me. rfkill unblock all only fixes soft blocks power off, removing battery and bios reset do nothing reinstall (purge) firmware-iwlwifi package and restart doesn't work restart network-manager doesn't work adding "blacklist wmi" ...

I have a VM on my network setup as a gateway that I use sometimes, while most of the time I just leave my PCs configured to use DHCP and just have everything go through the router. I had been swapping back and forth manual through the coection properties form but I've decided to try and make PowerShell scripts to simplify the process. I also disable IPv6 when routing through the VM, but reenable it when I use DHCP. To switch to using the VM as a Gateway I use this: # Get the adapter to change $wmi = Get-WmiObject win32_networkadapterconfiguration -filter "ipenabled ='true'"; # Get current IPv4 address of host $ip = $wmi.IpAddress[0]; # Configure adapter to use 192.168.1.135 as the default...
