Few weeks back I tried tuing on my old PC as I wanted to use it as a spare Television. After tuing it on, I realized it was having blue screen problem, so I tried re-installing windows XP but installing in previous windows XP drive(C) failed as a result I installed windows in F drive. After successful installation I booted my new windows from dual boot and started wiping data from C drive, at first I tried formatting C drive which failed then I started deleting individual files from C drive. During wiping I tued on visibility of system and hidden files and wiped everything from C drive (Including any files used for booting in C drive). Then after some minutes I restarted my windows. The problem with working too late. In ssh I was trying to remove a folder I created in /usr/sbin but forgot to add the folder name so thus the entire sbin folder was instantly deleted. I do not have a backup of this folder (only of cpanel accounts). I did this by accident: rm -rf /usr/sbin Immediately the server was still fine. However, named would not restart. A couple hours later, the server went down. However, even though the server was down, httpd was still ruing. Well, eventually I got it up again by removing and reinstalling sshd and also reinstalling named and tweaking a couple things to get named started. Since creating this stupid mistake, I have had to do numerous things: remove...

I'm debating between these two options that Truecrypt offers. This is a non-OS drive I would like to fully encrypt. Erase all partitions and encrypt the entire drive - Pros: if the drive gets in the wrong hands, it would just look like a completely raw drive, there would be no way to infer there's anything on it. Cons: if the drive gets attached to the wrong OS, the OS would see it as a raw drive, and might pro-actively do something that overwrites critical data? Create one single partition and encrypt that - Pros: the OS will see it as an unformatted partition, and will ask to format it, but it will never format or write anything on it without asking. Cons: the existence of a partition migh...

I've "grown up" on Winamp, and still have much of my media library on Windows from those days, much of it neatly organised in a folder structure of Artist/Album/ -- but some just a bunch of files in some directory. The way the Winamp media library worked was by recursively iterating through the subfolders of wherever the music was stored and compiling a database of all the files and their metadata, then showing me whatever I had grouped or sorted by whatever I chose (Artist, style, song names...), including an indexed search where I'd start typing and it'd reduce the whole list to whatever contained the search term. That's completely independent of the folder structure which the files are st...

If someone on the IT staff of an enterprise describes their company as "entirely virtualized", what exactly does that mean? (In reference to the workstations) Does it mean that instead of each PC in the company having its own copy of (for example) Windows 7 installed on the hard drive, there is some kind of central VM server shooting out hundreds of virtual Windows 7s to each PC?
