I have a remote server A with rsync and ssh setup such that I can backup a group of machines (B, C, D and so on) to it securely. Each machine's backups are in their own subfolder (/backup/B, /backup/C, /backup/D etc.) Remote server A also runs rsnapshot daily, weekly, and monthly, so it has:- /snapshots/ daily.0 B C D daily.1 B C D And so on for weekly.{0-4} and monthly{0-12}. Fairly standard. The thing is, I have two FULL copies of all data from my other machines. There's a full copy of machine B's data in /backup/B and another full copy in /snapshots/daily.0/B This seems inefficient, space wise. I copied music from one mp3 player to my computer using Windows Media palyer. I wanted to put this newly copied music onto a different mp3 player but some of the songs have the message that i don't have sychronisation permission to copy a particular song onto the different mp3 player. When I click on the 'help' box it takes me to a Windows Microsoft page but the page says my browser doesn't support me getting the liscence (I presume the liscene will allow me to put the music onto the mp3 player). I have a NectCloud server which I sync with my Android phone (it runs Cyanogenmod, and I don't sync with Google). So -- I use mutt for writing email on my desktop, and I'd like to sync mutt aliases with my phone and NextCloud contacts, but keeping a local cache because I want to be able to use the aliases even when my inteet coection is down (or slow). Is there an easy way to do this? Or maybe a relatively easy way, like setting up another NextCloud server on the desktop, and have it communicate with my already ruing server? I made a Veracrypt file in my OneDrive / Dropbox folders. I then mounted the file in Veracrypt and added some financial records to the volume and unmounted it. Even though the contents of the encrypted volume had changed, the file itself had the same dates and size. Will OneDrive / Dropbox / Google drive sync it when I make a future changes because they look at the actual file contents? Or will they think it's the same file as on the server and I'll not save any changes to the cloud? If it's the latter case, how should I force syncing? Change the filename? rsync has various options for reading various config from files so that you don't have to chain a bunch of individual --include or --exclude options together. All of these options (as far as I cantell) read from a file on your local computer: --exclude-from=FILE --include-from=FILE --files-from=FILE The doc for --files-from=FILE even clarifies that you can use it with either a local or remote FILE: In addition, the --files-from file can be read from the remote host instead of the local host if you specify a "host:" in front of the file (the host must match one end of the transfer). As a total newbie, after reading tons of questions in SO and the documentation repetitively several times, I came up with this solution: rsync -Pavuh --append-verify source destination Where --append-verify flag implies --inplace flag and --inplace flag implies --partial and I only put the -P flag there because I am lazy to write --progress seperately. Yet, when I issue this command, and Ctrl+C it in the middle of a big file, and then re-issue it, after it finishes I see that that big file is left where I cut it off. The right behaviour should be as per documentation to leave the partially transferred file as is on cancellation accorind to the --partial flag (which is done) and then continue...

okay, so I have a USB HDD that I use with my TV as a media drive, and I want to know if there is a way to; when I plug it into my laptop, automatically sync a specific folder on the pc to a specific folder on the drive, and if I leave it in, sync any changes in real time, I am ruing windows 10 Home, if you need any more details just ask, I would preferably like to do this without any third party software, if not I can download and install something.
