Windows Update stalls on Windows 7
- SP1 is installed
- Will update Security Essentials definitions
a scan found no problems
computer has never had a virus that I know of
- The hard drive had not been used for a couple years
It did install 4 old update that had been downloaded but not yet installed
It is a sister to an identical computer that had a failed mother board
The hard drive failed so I just took the hard drive from the bad mother board
But that does not seem to be a problem - it Activated and everything else works fine.
- Malware Bytes found no problems
- Installed the KB947821 / Readiness tool for Windows 7 and it ran and said OK
- The update service and Windows Update just stick on "Searching for updates"
I have let them run for 2 days each
CPU 50%
- KB3172605 / Diagnostics finds a generic 800700 error that it cannot fix
It will find a previous a failed update and fix that
- Shut down the service reboot and try KB3020369 April 2015 rollup
searching for updates for over 12 hours - I will let it run 2 days
What else can I try here?
