First - yes I support old stuff... not blades and the like, Racks of 2 and 4U servers, up to 16 of them in a set.
A hardware IP KVM solution in new deployments answers all of my issues, my gap currently is that I want to equip each location I support with a low cost Dongle they can connect to any troubled server (say they blow up the BIOS settings and need help or the RAID controller needs configured or maybe a server is blue screening and we need to capture the stop data after windows crashes remotely).
Hardware standalone IP-KVM dongles exist and work adequately yet always need an IP configured. I am seeking a device that I could plug into any nearby working server via USB, and it connect to the hardware KVM ports of the problem machine. So I can used the remote access tools I have at my disposal for Windows (on a working machine) to get graphical data of the problem server. This way no IP needs configured at each machine, they simply hook KVM cables up to problem server (hopefully passing through to local KVM devices so I can train local personnel too) and plug into an available USB port on a working server.
Searches for USB KVM adapter/dongle or whatever gives me many results of all the cables that KVM's need, but no devices with the video capture and etc cooked into them that I can find.
