I have an exteal Seagate disk drive, and I'm using it on a Mac with a Bootcamp partition running Windows 8. The drive works fine on my OSX machine (which makes me doubt the drive itself is failing, but you never know with Seagate, as I found out much too late), but in the past week or so it's been having trouble connecting on the Bootcamp partition. It gives an Error 10, but running troubleshooting reveals that the drivers are working fine. I've tried replacing the drivers with the ones found in the folder with the USB driver backups, but that lead to nothing. Out of frustration I also tried repairing it using OSX's Disk Utility, which again found nothing wrong. The computer obviously recognizes it because it shows up in the list of devices, but Disk Manager doesn't show it.
I'm not sure why this would be happening. Nothing's changed in the partition; in fact this started happening after a period where I stopped using it. In addition, within the timeframe I've had the problem, it's actually worked 2 or 3 times. However, the same problem happened the next time I logged into my partition.
I've also tried updating Windows, but my computer says that there are no updates. However, I'm not sure if my partition can actually detect updates. I'm not sure if that's a problem that all Bootcamp partitions have or if I was merely careless while setting it up. My apologies if it's the latter and my carelessness has put a potential solution out of the picture, but if anyone has advice on that as well, feel free to give it. I could also just trash the whole thing and remake the partition, but it would be fairly inconvenient so I'm looking to avoid that if possible,
