UrlPrefix string in Firefox browsing history?

Can someone explain why one might find UrlPrefix strings in a users Firefox browsing history? For example:

scheme://host:port/relativeURI | http://+:80/Example

Would he/she be trying to run their machine as a virtual host of some kind?
