I'm trying to associate a certificate with a private key in an HSM. I first import the cert into my Microsoft Personal store. I then import the key into my HSM. Next, I try to associate the cert with the key by using certutil:
certutil -csp "<HSM Key Storage Provider>" -repairstore My "<Certificate Thumbprint>"
When I execute this it outputs:
CertUtil: -repairstore command FAILED: 0x80092005
CertUtrl: The object or property already exists.
While it would appear it failed, the cert is actually associated with the proper private key however the provider is "Microsoft Enhanced RSA and AES Cryptographic Provider" not my HSMs Key Storage Provider so it must be accessing some copy of the key on my machine not the one on the HSM.
I did previously import the key and cert from a p12 file (then removed them) so I'm guessing there is still a local copy of it floating around somewhere. Do i need to cleanup some old key?
I'm pretty new with this stuff (KSPs/cert stores/private key storage) so my understanding of how these things work could be completely off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Let me know if you need more information or I'm not being clear enough about what I'm trying to do.
