Windows 10 free upgrade, then install 10 *N* fresh?

For a computer that has been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro within the grace period for the free offer (7/29), would doing a fresh install of Windows 10 N Pro afterwards preserve, or lose, the existing activation? (The N version is the European flavor, without Media Player and related applets.) I didn't find an authoritative answer on a quick search, and was wondering if maybe anyone actually tried it.
