Can Windows Live Photo Gallery not write PNG XMP-Tags?

According to this, WLPG has actually adopted XMP instead of EXIF for a long time. Yet it says that it caot write metadata in PNG files. Is that still the case? Can I somehow find out which of my photos have their metadata in the file and which don't?
