SSD reserve space for better performance

You don't need to reserve any space, but the less space you use the longer the SSD will last - the logic for spreading out writes is spread evenly over the disk by the drive (ie wear leveling is not an OS or file system level thing). Further, you should not need to worry too much about wear on a decent quality SSD on typical workstation loads - the number of read-write cycles is quite high.

Its generally a good idea to at least 10% and preferably 20% of a partition free from a point of view of speeding up writes and reducing fragmentation - this is, however, less important in an SSD then a hard drive as SSD's barely suffer from fragmentation issues.

Other things to bear in mind when purchasing an SSD

Size of SSD (of-course) - remembering recovery partitions and other crap is relevant.

Type of SSD - Samsung 3D VNAND is probably the most reliable, but there are a few types of technologies with different number of write cycles, depending on the number of bits per unit of NAND and the size of the lithography. Also, not all firmware is created equal.

Class of SSD - Consumer grade SSD's don't perform quite as reliably as server grade SSD's, and have cheaper circuitry - especially missing things like supercaps or other bits to handle writes in case of a sudden power outage.

Bus and form factor - Most SSD's are drop in replacement for 2.5" sata drives, but not all. You get SAS, PCI and even USB drives. You also get SATA like drives which are a smaller form factor for some notebooks and will require a convertor (eg M.2 standard)

Speed - not all SSD's are created equal speed wise.

Your backup solution - SSD's are an order of magnitude more reliable then hard drives, but when they fail, they are much, much more likely to fail catastrophically and without waing - you need a strong backup mechanism in place, otherwise you will most likely wake up one moing and your data is simply gone.
