Notepad++ Backup feature not working in split screen?

I've recently been using Notepad++ in its split screen view. Recently, I had to restart my computer, and upon restart, the "second" screen in the split screen view was no longer there.

I knew that Notepad++ generally backs up the files in the [user]appdataroamingnotepad++backup . In that folder, I have the backed up files from the first screen but not in the second screen.

I've used recuva to see if notepad++ might have deleted the files in the second split screen window, but I come up with no good results there. It might be relevant that I have an SSD, and that I restarted my computer about just two hours ago, and have not done much read/write work except using Firefox and other similar programs.

Does Notepad++'s backup functionality not work in split screen? If so, that's kind of disconcerting, because I was never asked to save my file when I closed Notepad++, thinking that my file would have been automatically backed up.

Any ideas?
