How to calculate maximum number of threads supported by VirtualBox

I recently notice my Virtual Box VM will show up error when ruing a multi thread application. If the thread number is low, there will be no error.

Given n number of CPU assigned to the VM, is there any equation for maximum number of thread supported by Virtual Box?

The OS is ubuntu 16.04.
