Are M-disks truly reliable than other forms of storage

I came across M-disks boasting a lifespane of 1000 years and resistance to harsh environment conditons. Is this based on some new technology or it is just as same as the other disks with approx 5 year life span for data protection. There is a 100GB version of this is also there on amazon.
