How can I benchmark internet coection uptime (to run for hours and log results)? [on hold]

I have reason to suspect that my inteet coection is unstable, I need a tool or a built-in solution for comprehensive testing, mostly to define uptime and length of inteet outages.

Wireshark is often mentioned, but I don't know if the program is suitable for my needs (if it is, please give usage instructions).
