"Start Scan" has disappeared from the context menu of my printer/scaer in Devices & Printers

Windows 7 64-bit.

I have a Brother printer/scaer which I installed many months ago. For a while, I was able to start a scan by right-clicking the printer under Devices & Printers from the Start Menu and selecting "Start Scan", however as of a few weeks ago this option has disappeared along with the other "Scan" properties.

I reinstalled the full driver suite etc. but nothing has brought the option back, and so I have to scan using Brother's awful, clunky software now. The scaer does still work.

Why is this happening and how can I restore the "Start Scan" option?
