This is a mirror-image of this question: Can I put a laptop Core i7 CPU in a desktop?
I would like to buy a laptop that I will use mostly at home and at the office. I need a laptop rather than a desktop because I need to be able to carry it between the home and the office. But other than that, I will use it mostly connected to electricity.
Laptops usually come with specialized CPU versions, that are optimized for low power-consumption, but are slower than their desktop counterparts. For example, in this passmark test, the core-i3 6320 (desktop CPU) gets a score of 2245, while the core-i3 6100H (laptop CPU) gets only 1447 (and it is much more expensive, too).
So, my question is: can I put a desktop CPU such as core-i3 6320 into a laptop, if I intend to use the laptop only connected to electricity?
