I have host only network setup with two linux distributions virtual machines (kali and security-onion). Connection bw both vm is fine as both able to ping each other successfully.
- I tried
rlogin but it said connection timedout.
- Then I used
traceroute command which only printed asterisk on console.
- I tried it again with
-I option and it worked which brought me to conclusion that there must be some rules in iptables which are blocking other protocols besides icmp messages.
- I tued off iptables via
sudo ufw disable command, I read somewhere on inteet. After that traceroute command worked.
But I am still unable to rlogin however now a different error. Instead of connection timedout it now says connection refused. When I searched again about this error I found to alter some settings in /etc/xinetd/rsh file but I do not have this directory available in /etc which I guess means I dont have sufficient packages installed. But I am able to rlogin in localhost with rlogin -l useame localhost. How is it possible when I have no service running?
All I want is to be able to use rlogin from one vm to another. Can someone tell me whats going on here?
