mouse scrolling causes window flashing in Windows 10

After upgrading to Windows 10 on my Asus G74 laptop, scrolling a page with my mouse scroll wheel makes the window contents start flashing. Moving the scroll bar on the window stops the flashing and retus the window to the top of the page I was scrolling. If I only use the window scroll bar, all is fine; the problem only occurs when I use the mouse scroll wheel on my hardwired Dell mouse. The scroll wheel worked fine for years in Windows 7 and the mouse works fine on my desktop pc. I've seen lots of posts about flashing screens in Windows 10 but none pertaining only to the mouse scroll wheel or the fact that only the contents of the window I'm viewing flashes, not my entire desktop. I've checked/tinkered with drivers (there are no "special" drivers of any kind installed), settings, etc. with no effect. I've noticed that in games or maps where the scroll wheel is used to zoom or move about I have no problems with it, only in "normal" windows of text or other online material (e.g. Word, Facebook, web pages).
