mouse driver installed but not working

Recently, I reinstalled Windows-7 service pack 1. After, installing my usb keyboard is working but my mouse is not working.

I am using a ps/2 mouse with usb adapter. It worked fine before reinstall windows.

But if I insert a linux, ubuntu or mint, dvd and boot live linux distribution the mouse is working fine. It is not working in windows.

I am using a notebook. Hp pavilion G4. Model g4-2005AU. I also uninstalled and then installed mouse drivers, updated it but all goes in vein.

If I plug the ps/2 mouse with usb adapter windows install its driver and show the mouse in device manager under "Mice and other pointing device" but the pointer is not moving while I move the mouse. No left, right or middle click is working either.

I am hanging with this problem for two days now. What is your suggestion?
