Coecting Macbook Pro (HDMI) with external monitor (Displayport)

Damn, got to work, but without two monitors it is not possible. Without any luck I can't coect Macbook Pro to DELL U2312HM using MALE to MALE (HDMI (for mac) to DisplayPort(for monitor)) cable. I dont need any sound or 4k pixels, just extra 1920px where to place artboard. Thats bollocks! Any ideas, Mr and Mrs smart people?
