Actual Location of 'Quick Access' or 'Recent Items' In Windows 10/8/7

I have noticed that on Windows 10, when you remove an item from the quick access menu, recent items, or even on the drag-up menus on an application from the taskbar, more items are readily able to populate the list.

This can lead me to believe that Windows keeps a file in either its registry or within the /system32/ folder which contains the past used apps & docs.

Does anyone know where this is located?

Thank you in advance.
