Imported ldap user password too short

I'm attempting to users on the sonicwall from my windows AD. I want the windows logon password to be the VPN password.

Users>Local users> import from ldap > I pick the user and they are created. However I get an error "Waing: Password is too short (new password has not been saved, please try again)"

sonicwall "login security" is 8 length, 1 upper, 1 lower, 1 number. The account that just failed had a password of "qazwsx123456!@"

The log shows a user created, but nothing about the password at all.
