I have two laptops, both Windows 10. On laptop #1, I set up a wireless ad hoc network (SSID was TestNet). Using laptop #2, I was able to log into TestNet connect to a database on laptop #1. I was able to ping the ad hoc network using the SSID:
ping TestNet
And I got the expected response back (IP address and ping times on each reply)
Now, here's where I have an issue:
I ended the hosting of the ad hoc network on laptop #1, and set it up on laptop #2. Using laptop #1, I was able to log into the ad hoc network. The problem is that I have to use the IP address in order to ping the network. I also have to use the IP address to connect to the database hosted on laptop #2.
So, my question is this: When laptop #1 is hosting the ad hoc network and the database, I can ping from laptop #2 and connect to the database using the SSID. However, when laptop #2 is hosting the ad hoc network and the database, I cannot ping from laptop #1 or connect to the database unless I use the IP address. It doesn't seem to recognize the SSID, even though I'm able to connect to that SSID.
Is there something that I can check to see what's different between laptop #1 and laptop #2. Remember, I can connect to both, it's just with one I can do what I need to with SSID. The other, I have to use IP address.
