I have installed Nas4Free (OS based on FreeBSD) on a low power VPS I am renting. However, I can't get access to the remote management interface since remote access is limited to the LAN (same subnet) by default. I haven't found any documentation about how to enable remote access from the shell, which I have access to over a VNC connection.
At the moment I have tried modifying an inteal XML config file, without success (read-only partition), and accessing the server over SSH and reverse tunnelling (it failed because I don't know how to enable the SSH daemon without using the UI). I also tried to install a text web browser (elinks) to get to the page from the server itself, again without success, as doing a pkg install elinks fails with the error No valid repository found..
I have almost no experience in managing a FreeBSD server, which is quite different from the standard Linux distributions I am used to.
Is someone familiar enough with BSD or FreeNAS (which I believe is quite similar) to give me some ideas of things to try? I would like to avoid provisioning another server temporarily and paying for a virtual network just for that.
