Printer won't install

bought new HP officejet 5740 e all in one. It is coected to my wireless network router, but I can't get it installed on my laptop computer. I called HP and they want to charge me $299.99 to install the new printer. They said I have junk files that are corrupt. I don't want to spend $300 on fixing this Gateway laptop, so I asked if I bought a new laptop if the files would be gone. They told me the only way to fix the problem is to have them fix the corrupt files, and buying new computer and/or router would not fix the problem. Has anyone else out there been told the only way to coect a printer is to pay HP $300? Can anyone help? I am on Windows 10, it is a Windows 10 compatible router, and printer. Guest
