Win 10 "abnormal operating environment" ruing Scansnap S1500 Mgr v5.5L10

Unable to coect.

Sometimes able to coect by restarting and/or unplugging. Recovery tool in the Support Tools gives me "abnormal operating environment"

Retart/unplug options did not work this time so uninstalled and reinstalling sw (v5.5L10) and coection was recovered but shouldn't have had to do this. What other recovery options are there?
