Very Confused HP Compaq 8710p Re: AC Adapters

My 1st Laptop, Please forgive my lack of knowledge. I've spent 4 days off and on trying to lea what I can. More confused than 5 days ago. Info found on the bottom of a HP Compaq 8710p laptop, Input: 18.5-19Vdc, line w/3 dots under, 4.74A or 6.5A, Polarity...(left to right) w/ -(inside)O(line)C(shape)with small)o(shape inside of)C(with line)-(to)+(inside)O C(has)o(inside)o(shape not solid color) C(shape in middle facing)+ The more I read the more confused I get. Very confusing with showing 2 diff Voltage and 2 diff Amps. What Voltage belongs with what Amps? How do I find proper Wattage? That's all that shows on bottom of laptop for Adapter info. Wattage, Voltage, Amps, Polarity? Will give s/n, p/n, Model/n if needed? Now with try to narrow my questions? Too much already? Sorry Does, 18.5Vdc-4.74A go together? Then 19Vdc-6.5A go together? How do I find Wattage? What should polarity shapes & Symbols be? As to not Revers Poles? Sorry for being so lost I need such help. I'm grateful for any & all help. Thank you
