When I was told about how computers establish a connection (using TCP), I leaed about the "three way handshake", in a way that I understood exactly what the packets were saying:
Computer A: Sends "SYN" -- asking if "anyone's there"
Computer B: Sends back "SYN ACK" -- confirming there is
Computer A: Sends back "ACK" -- making sure B knows their message made it back to A.
It made it really easy for me to understand, and explain to others later.
I'd like to know if there's a similar way of explaining the (more complicated) process of downloading a torrent? Probably with some information on the "data" that is transferred each time (like what exactly the tracker is giving back):
- Connecting to a tracker (
"3-way handshake" with 'http://tracker.netbsd.org:6969/announce)
- What the tracker says/gives back (
"Here's a table of peer information")
- How the client then joins the swarm
and etc.
