How to get Adobe Acrobat XI PDF Printer to convert PDF with Asian text to single page with same text?

I'm converting a two page pdf to a single page PDF with Japanese characters. Double to single page conversion goes fine except, I'm getting garbage characters in certain sets of text. I can convert it to an image and everything obviously works fine, but I'd like to keep the keep the text selectable.
