Process with pid 0 has writes

While I was watching randomly the ressource monitor on a Windows 7 machine it cought my eye that there was a process with the name "System" and the pid 0 writing to the hdd. Since the pid 0 belongs to the "System Idle Process" how is it possible that it has disk writes?
