excel froze and after killing the process excel file has disappeared

I'm hoping someone can help me. At work, my Excel spreadsheet froze while I was working in it. I couldn't type or move into any cell, nor could I save or close the file. I was able to use the Task Manager to end process the file, but now the file has disappeared! It's a shared file on a shared site and no one can find it. Any suggestions?
