Get files off of VMware Virtual Machine

I have a VMware virtual machine that has a .vmdk file that for some reason it "can't find". There are some important files on it that I need to get off, but the machine will not boot. I have tried all the recommendations that I could find on recreating the vmdk file or trying to fix it, but none of them are working. I don't know if there is a way to get the files off the machine without the .vmdk file, but it would be really great if I could get some help. Thanks!
