Share image disk with Grub in native and with a VM?

I would like to have only one file which is a Linux system image file.

I would like to run this file into a VM when I am using Windows AND in native when I need power. The file will be on an exteal disk.

It is supposed to be ok since we can mount the system image file, chroot it and launch a command in order to launch LXDE, Unity etc...

What do I need in order to run the image disk in native ? Grub with the smallest linux distribution (Keel and some packages) ?
