I’ve been monitoring my network for quite a few weeks now and made a number of strange discoveries, but this one is beyond anything I can explain.
The curl process (on OS X) was used at around 3pm by another process (though I don’t know which one) to send (through http) a fair amount of data to a, strange, strange place. I was working at that time and no strange application was running, to my knowledge.
The recipient domain was named canary.abetarda.com. And it displays... a picture of a bird. That’s it. I scanned this website extensively; there is nothing. No script or whatever. There is not even a CSS sheet. The whole website is basically an <img> HTML tag and nothing else.
I also looked for information about this domain, its owner and so on, but nothing meaningful came along. Which leads me to the question: do you have any idea of what this could come from, and how to know more about the process who made this connexion ?
