How to check the good functionality of the splash screen?

I'm using Linux Mint 17. Even if I set splash screen in grub with the following line, I have no splash screen. I wish to have splash screen. Please, could you tell me how to check all functions around the splash screen, in order to fix it. Thanks! GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
