Dell Studio XPS 9100, Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core i7 CPU, 960 @ 3.20 GHz, Service Pack 1, 12 GB RAM, 64 bit OS

My hard disk drive is always busy, even in SAFE Mode with or without networking. In Normal Windows, the computer will occasionally freeze with a black screen and the computer needs to be tued off in order to get it to work again.

I have McAfee Antivirus protection always tued on but have tued it off to see if this might be the culprit. No effect by tuing it off.

The task manager shows 99% idle time yet the hard drive is very busy.

I have run the following software programs with no avail: 1. McAfee Scan 2. Spybot S&D 3. Little Registry Cleaner 4. Spyhunter 5. Reghunter

Sometimes I get the impression that (someone - or some software) is collecting all my computer information. This is just a gut feeling and I have no proof. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the problem?
