I was wondering about the feasibility of using Firefox Nightly or Chromium Dev channel as my primary browser. I can live with the occasional crash or broken extension, but I was wondering if they are less secure than the stable releases.
Firstly, I assume the developer channels receive the same security updates as the stable release, at either the same time or faster. Please tell me if I am mistaken.
Secondly, there is the question about if the new features in the developer channels, which are buggy, cause insecurities. Presumably yes, because many software bugs can be used to bypass security mechanisms. But on the other hand, it's extremely unlikely (at least I assume so--correct me if I am wrong) that any malware authors, even if they were interested in targeting the small percentage of people using the developer versions, would be able to craft some exploit and zero-day it before the bugs are fixed. I think it highly unlikely.
What do you think?
