Blank screen; no input

My computer screen will not switch on. All I see is a blank blackness. It's been like this for a while but I feel like a year might pass and I would not see any sort of display.

It is a 1080p display. I have an HDMI cable which I hook up to my laptop which allowed me to see things on a larger display. The monitor rests above my amp and is somewhat unstable there. I don't think that's the problem.

The problem is sometimes the laptop will not accept the amp at all. Not a blank display exactly, just won't even recognise it's there.

If I could see it being tried on another output device I wouldn't mind, as long as there were no issues.
