Visual Basic 2010/2008 not installing

I was trying to install Visual Basic 2010 and (since it didn't work) I tried 2008. I will tell you what happened to both.

2010:

"setup.exe has stopped working" error happened when it tried to install the programs. (ISO version)

2008:

Same as above, but it had issues downloading and downloaded in compatibity mode for Windows XP. It couldn't install. Same error. (Web-based installer)

I am running a Sony VAIO pc with Windows Vista on it. Other programs install fine on it.
