Changing Surface's Pro firmware

My surface doesn't recognize my type cover anymore and I'm sure that my type cover is working because I connected it with another surface and I saw it's working. So I cleaned the connection on my surface pro and still no effect. It has been quite while since I haven't done anything to make the type cover work again. Today the mini displayport also stopped working, so I restarted in linux wondering if it was a OS issue, and it wasn't, so restarted a few more times with no result, until I changed in the firmware to secure boot mode and the mini display port stated to work again. I'm sure it's not a cable connection issue nor my display and I'm not debating that the issue was the secure boot, but rather the firmware's fault. Another evidence that the firmware doesn't work properly it's because the usb port works at will, it happens before the bootloader takes up and I see that the light in my usb hub is powered but the mouse and the keyboard doesn't respond, so to choose what OS to load I've to re-insert the usb cable a couple of times, still it could be a hardware issue but my suspicions is on the firmware. When installed ubuntu the color of the screen before the bootloader changed to orange, I'm guessing it has changed the firmware configuration somehow. Is it possible to change the firmware or access it's configurations, install an open source UEFI?
