What caused my Macbook to be bricked?

Today I was browsing the inteet on my 2012 MacBook pro, and it suddenly tued off. I then noticed the coer of a small plastic baggie (from a RadioShack part) sticking out of the split between the screen hinge and metal chassis. The baggie coer had somehow found its way through the slit on the bottom of the Mac through to the top, poking out near the top left side of the keyboard. This happened while it was charging, at 100% battery. After it tued off and I removed the plastic, I tried to power it on by pressing the power button, but nothing happened. Holding/pressing the power button in any combination did not tu it on, so the Mac was definitely bricked. What I'm wondering is, what did this plastic do to the computer? What part is located on the right of the slit separating the hinge and the metal body, and can I repair that part by myself?

EDIT: The charging cable light was off after it died, but now the light is a faint green when I plugged it back in about ten minutes since it was bricked. It is not a bright green like normal, but it is faintly glowing. What does this mean?
