I was on a rush today, so I downloaded something from a source I didn't know. I didn't double check (yep, my bad) and run the executable.</p> <p>I didn't <strong>explicitly</strong> run it as an administrator mode, but the <strong>User Account Control</strong> window asking <strong>Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your PC?</strong> popped up (so maybe that message means the app is asking for admins? if that's the case RIP me).</p> <p>So I clicked <strong>Yes</strong> and the problem began. When that PC is connected to the WiFi, every other PC gets a <code>ping</code> response of over 200ms to the gateway router <code>192.168.1.1</code> and a 200ms to 1.2s to <code>8.8.8.8</code>. Subsequently, by running <code>speedtest.net</code> said PC gets a download speed of about 1 Mbps while the other 2 PCs and 1 Mac gets 6 Mbps.</p> <p>Obviously something in my PC is eating bandwidth. Problem is I'm unable to track it down. The desktop is also using File History to the same drive. The laptops are using wired gigabit etheet most of the time when they're at home. The desktop is using gigabit etheet.</p> <p>This setup seems to be working well. </p> <p>What I am wondering though, is it a bad idea to try to image the File History drive at night to a removable usb 3 drive for offsite storage. Does anyone have any opinions about or experience with doing this? My first hypothesis for this rumbling/humming sound is the fan, so I tried removing every last fan, the noise didn't stop, it was actually easier to hear when the whirring of the fans wasn't there, I then spent hours testing each piece of hardware and came to the conclusion that the CPU itself was making the noise and then decided that I was happy with my conclusion for then, I recently remembered it and I got curious as to what generates it.</p> <p>I don't own those machines anymore (alas I had to get rid of them due to moving) but I have observed that newer CPU's make the same noise, just a lot fainter and more subtle, so I do think it has something to do with the underlying architecture.</p> <p>Anyway, before my rambling carries off too far... What causes the noise and is there any correct terminology for it? These questions are derived from a few hours on google and getting nothing but people asking silly questions such as "Why is my hdd ticking?" or "Why is my CPU producing a high pitch noise?" I connect a standard HDMI cable to the adapter with other end going to the T.V.</p> <p>Video works fine but I can't hear audio out of the T.V. Speakers. </p> <p>From what I've read, the video card needs to support audio via onboard sound on the VIDEO CARD or pass through from the SOUNDCARD (since it is coming out of the display port).
