Tmux on Mac: How to bind "option" key?

I am adding this to my ~/.tmux.conf file and ruing tmux source ~/.tmux.conf but it's not working

set -g history-limit 100000

bind-key -n M-n next-window <--------------------- does not work
bind-key -n M-c new-window '#{pane_current_path}'

Could someone help?
